About the release: I was killing the myspace community with various jamz that me and the squad was making in the best studio in North Carolina called "De Stove". Anyway, a dude named Blak Mike out of Seattle, got at me about doing some work on his mixtape out there. I was with it because I felt it was an excellent opportunity to extend my reign to the west coast. A little "hip hop expansionism" if u will. So he sent some beats and they were ass. I informed him of my discoveries, and he then told me, he had this cat named Eric G that had better shit.
So a week later, I received like 5 beats via Gmail from the aforementioned Eric G. They were dope so of course I laced them shits. The first song I ever recorded over his tracks was called, "The Best There could Be", a classic reminder to all those that do not bow down to Fat Xerces (one of my many aliases), that I am by far, the best there could be. Eric absolutely loved it. A day later he sent me an email with his contact information. I called the Seattle sensation and immediately told him how fond I was of his production. He then expressed to me how much he adored my talents and thus, the connection was made. BIG TReaL and Eric G. Like Jackson and McCartney. Murtaw and Riggs. Lamont and Julio. What?................................
SO, he started sending me heat by the bundle!! I'm talkin 20-30 tracks at a time homes.....DOPE SHIT TOO!! So I started writing to them. Like all of them. I recorded like 36 jamz. During the process, I had allot of shit going on and to boot, the world was fucked up. Like everyday I was watching CNN and local news and just seeing bad shit. It was disheartening. While I was watching CNN one day, I was listening to some beats (at a low volume of course so I could still get the information. I multi-task well), Eric had this beat that sounded like the cure for cancer. It inspired me to write the title track and soon to be Oprah's favorite rap song, "Just Today". The jam describes me waking up one morning and asking God for a day where everything is positive to sum it up, and I only ask that it’s Just Today. It's glorious. If u close your eyes real tight and turn towards the east around 7:37 est., u can actually see God nodding to it. Straight up. Its that dope.
We picked the best 12 out of the 36. That twelve serves as the wake up to all hip hop fans around the world that BIG TReaL has come to be the best that could be. The album embodies my opinions, fears, hopes and dreams. Any hip hop fan will love it. The songs actually have a concept. Like the stuff I say in the verses are not random information and then a hook about the fact that I get money. I put a lot of thought in to every song. True, there are one or two that may be random, but as the great Lauryn Hill said, "I add a MuthaFucka so these ignant n%##@z here me!".
I think the whole album is dope but if I had to pick some standouts outside the aforementioned, God's Favorite, "Just Today", I would start with "Talk Shit and Swallow Spit" featuring the young veteran, Torae ("Daily Conversations" get that). Me and the Coney Island wordsmith tell the world why we are better that all of u and we so official with it, we talk shit and swallow spit. That's pimp talk. Squares don't understand this type of jargon. Next, if u are interested in that good ol fashion hardcore, "And Still" will definitely feel that void. If u out spending ya work check on chicks, u most definitely need to hear, "MOB till I DIE". Here, I explain to men that u need to be about getting ya money straight and not getting these chicks straight in the process. If u like hardcore with a quasi-gangsta feel, then u will be head over heels for the Charlotte classic, "Nitetime" featuring Charlotte legend Cappy J. Here we described a typical night in the Queen City, Charlotte, North Carolina.
I could do this shit for every song because they all hot. All the production is by of course, Eric G. He worked very hard on these beats and is a problem for all beat makers and loopdy loop producers. He will be the next Premo. I guarantee it. May God Bless u all and please, support the movement. -BIG TReaL
