Understanding

"In all of your getting get Understanding b/c whatever you fail to understand you will ultimately reject". Demetrius Travis a/k/a UNDERSTANDING is a hip-hop artist who understands the vast impact that hip-hop music has on today's generation. He is a visionary and his purpose is to use the artistry of hip-hop to give those who love hip-hop a greater love for it but also to show those who think negatively of it that it can be used for more than always talking about guns, "ice", "hustlin'", the ghetto, money, "hoes" & clothes, etc.

The concept of Understanding was born while Demetrius was studying psychology at the King's College. As a lover of hip-hop, he wanted to hear music that was positive and edifying to the mind and spirit. Rather than complain about what he felt was lacking or about how other artists should do their thing, he decided to put pen to paper and come up w/ his own style which could be felt from the street corner to the church and all points in between. Since then, Understanding's talents, gifts and abilities have taken him to "all points in between" including Massachusetts, New Hampshire, all five NYC boroughs, as far away as the Bahamas and as close as the MLK Reading Center in his native Spring Valley, N.Y.

When asked why he chose to call himself Understanding he states: "Knowledge represents the proper acquisition of facts, Understanding represents the proper interpretation of facts and Wisdom represents the proper application of facts. You often hear people talk about getting knowledge and about being wise, but without Understanding -which is the bridge between the two- you can never arrive at Wisdom. To the hip-hop nation as well as in my own personal life with people... I simply want to at least try to be that bridge." UNDERSTAND?
