Meet the Artist: Uncle Traveling Matt Please introduce yourself? Uncle Traveling Matt. I'm giving out 10 brownie points if you figure out where my name comes from.
From where? Vancouver, British Columbia. That's in Canada, just in case you don't know, and yes, we do all live in igloos.
Music influences? Prince Paul & Daniel Johnston.
Debut appearance? When I was 17 years-old, I appeared on a Vancouver hip-hop compilation album called Diversity by Beyond Productions. The group I was in was called the C-Munkiez. We could have spelled it Sea Monkeys but I think they had a rule in the early 90's that everything had to be spelled wrong and end with a Z. We were just following the rules.
What have you released so far? I just finished by debut album, Postcards from the Edge. I actually gave it a listen the other day. Not too shabby.
Do you produce? I MC, DJ and produce. I produced all the songs on my album. Just sitting around writing lyrics wouldn't be enough for me, I want to be apart of the whole creative process as much as possible. All I need to do now is buy some Krylon and learn how to do a backspin and I'll be set.
Best moment for you in hip hop? There's so many. Freestyling with the Pharcyde, voting for Eric B in the BC provincial elections, drinking beers with Ugly Duckling on their tour bus while wearing the infamous dookie gold rope. But my favorite one is when I used to work for Edirol, a music company that is owned by Roland. We were at some music conference in Vegas and I ended up getting to talk to the founder of Roland about the TR-808. He was this 75 year-old Japanese guy and we were talking about the impact that the TR-808 made on hip-hop and how the company embraced the culture when they found out who was using their product. Coolest conversation ever.
Any plans for a tour in the near future? A tour is in the works. Any chance to get on stage, I'm there. I've rocked everything from Halloween dances with rednecks waiting to beat me up in the parking lot, to acoustic guitar open mic nights with hippies shaking their heads and walking out of the show. Commies!
What's next? I've got a few collaborations coming out in the next little while. I just finished a track called Verbal Diarrhea with my main man Beattrix out of the UK and I'm working on a track right now with a group out of Whistler called Animal Nation. Postcards from the Edge took 3 years to make so I should take a break before I start the second album. But if you know me, you know that probably ain't gonna happen.
Shout outs? I'd like to thank Satan. I sold my soul to him for an MPC and I think I got a pretty good deal.
Uncle Traveling Matt's "Postcards From the Edge" is now available on iTunes!
Peace

DT (of Clan Destined) "Nowhere/Now Here" in stores now! Our existence is evolution. At one point or another we all take a look back at our lives and consider our own evolution. And as individual as it can be for us, there is a common link thru that same evolution that binds us all. It is with this understanding that DT shaped the album "Nowhere/Now Here". Just as the name implies, "Nowhere/Now Here" attempts to identify the different stages in our evolution along with demonstrating some of broader aspects that connect us all. Following the guidelines of the ancients and their wisdom, "Nowhere/Now Here" is set to 7 stages of growth. From the emptiness that surrounds us before we come to be to the eventual ascension we make into a higher form, this album is an instrumental voyage through our very souls. And remember, there are so many levels to our own growth. This album lets you, the listener discover his or her own path to understanding it all, by simply providing a soundtrack to your enlightenment. DT hopes you enjoy the album, and above all take its message of growth to heart.

Breez Evahflowin "When You Fall" video New York MC Breez Evahflowin releases new music video "When You Fall". Following the free download of his new single "Over" last month, Breez Evahflowin drops the first video from his new album "Breez Deez Treez," set to come out July 2009 on Domination Recordings.
Breez Evahflowin "When You Fall" video
Shot on location in North Carolina: Taking a hiatus from NYC, Breez is forced to uproot himself from his only known home in New York to reposition himself in the woods of Asheville North Carolina. Through a steady stream of beats from NYC producer Dave "Daveytree" Archuletta via internet, he is encouraged to thoroughly explore his innermost thoughts free of distraction and competition. It is also through these beats that he deals with the diagnosis of his mother's cancer and passing, which ultimately brings him back to NYC.
A combination of pain, anger, loss, triumph, despair, fortitude and hope in the face of life's challenges, delivered just as the nation and the world adjust to the extreme changes that have been predicted to come.
Check out more: Free download of the new single "Over," featuring Swave Sevah and Shaneeka Harrell.
Meet the Artist: Breez Evahflowin & Daveytree Please introduce yourself? Breez: Rick "Breez Evahflowin" Da Silva
Daveytree: Dave Archuletta, called Daveytree by my friends.
From where? Breez: NYC
Daveytree: New York the last 6 years, SF Bay Area for 10 years before that. I'm originally from Mendocino, CA - the Emerald Triangle. Currently living in Berlin, Germany.
Music Influences? Daveytree: James Brown. Miles. I think RZA is one of the most creative producers I've ever heard. Premiere, Pete Rock, Lord Finesse, Da Beatminerz. I'm also influenced a lot by Jazz, Classical, and International music. I grew up in a musical household, spent many late nights sleeping backstage while my mom played gigs, and traveled to different parts of the world as a kid. It all goes into the music.
Breez: Stronghold, Michael Jackson, James Brown, New Edition, The Furious Five, The Cold Crush MCs, Big Daddy Kane, EPMD, KRS-1, Bell Biv Devoe, The Police, Supa Lova Cee, CL Smooth, Organized Konfusion, LL Cool J, Redman, RUN DMC, Lord Finesse, Nice & Smooth, Nas, B.I.G., Wu Tang, Tribe Called Quest, Ice Cube, Heltah Skeltah I mean you can't memorize an album and walk away without having absorbed somethin'. No one can do that, thats why the mainstream flows as it does. It's always changing to keep current.
Debut appearance as an artist? Breez: On wax a 1/2 verse Black Knight's 12' single "who's the Black Ma," (1995) then a full verse in '96 on Cooked Rock Records 12' Single - "Always" (still to this day one of the sickest beats I've ever rocked a verse over). Then a full song in 1997 on Sound Plus Rhythm Records 12' single - "Forsaken". The "Pro-Files" EP (an admittedly bad title, I was winning MC battles, developed a bit of an Ego) in 2000 on Detonator Records. First full length but improperly titled EP "Fly" 2003 Justbe Records. First proper full lentgh "Troublemakers" 2008 a collaborative LP with producer Dirt E Dutch on Little Ax media.
Daveytree: I was living in the SF Bay Area. Produced some tracks for the Mission Burrito Project (cassette tape, 1998). Before that I played drums in the Funk Force Collective, and also in a band called Run The Voodoo Down.
Best moment for you in Hip Hop? Breez: It's a tie between-Studio 54 in the Early 90's it was a Tribe Called Quest concert, LONS runs out on stage and they break into 'Scenario' and we become this huge human wave goin' bananas. The other was at a hip-hop venue called Car Wash in the Mid 90's at a show where Lord Finesse and Andre the Giant were on stage and the power cutout, lights mics you name it. But the street lights flooded the stage and they went on verse for verse KILLING IT accapella 'til the power came back on.
Daveytree: 2 Records come to mind. First it was TCQ's People's Instinctive Rhythms... and later when 36 Chambers came out, I think it changed my brain. Production-wise, those records for me pushed the music to new level. But I gotta say one of the best moments in hip-hop for me was working on this project, meeting Breez & Swave.
Who are some artists that you have collaborated with on the new project? Daveytree: Noah D aka "Deez" contributed 3 tracks and I produced the rest. All the backup singing is done by Shaneeka Harrell, a dancer and singer who performed with Bill T. Jones and Urban Bush Women. I love Shaneeka's voice. I heard her singing one day in a rehearsal, instantly heard her on this project and convinced her to do some sessions with me and Breez.
Breez: Long time collaborator and Stronghold member Swave Sevah, Ike P, Dojah & Symphonic. some great additional vocals from Shaneeka, Her distinct sound adds to the continuity of the project.
Please speak on your upcoming release "Breez Deez Treez"? Breez: the production came together a few years ago when visiting San Francisco I linked up with Noah D (Deez). He was good friends with the executive producer of my last project- David Goldchain. Deez gave me an instrumental LP Daveytree had released and we rocked it in the rental for the whole week. Deez and I talked of a project that he envisioned Daveytree being a part of. I needed to vent at the time. My mother was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor a year after we broke ground on the project. I needed to stay occupied and Treez kept the beats coming.
Daveytree: Its been a 3 year journey since this album started, which makes sense because the project started in 3 different states: Breez was in North Carolina, I was in New York and Noah D (Deez) was in California. Noah arranged some studio sessions for us together at The Dojo in Brooklyn, where we began what was to be an EP. Immediately after finishing those songs, we continued to work on new material over the internet. Breez came back to NYC for a visit and I brought Shaneeka over - we recorded her vocals for Background Music and Moms right there in the living room. Breez moved back to NYC and we finished the CD over the internet with me in Berlin, Breez in NY, and Shaneeka in Philly. You gotta love the internet for that.
Any plans for a tour in the near future? Breez: We'll see, touring is costly at the moment, there would have to be enough of a demand to make it worth doing. I'm more of the mindset to get the music out into the world and out of our systems knowing we put out something solid.
Daveytree: I got peeps in SF who want to do a show, and I would like to do something at Harlem Stage - perform the whole album with Breez, Shaneeka, and Swave. We'll see.
What's next as a duo and solo artists? Daveytree: I would love to do a full length of a Breez & Swave as a duo. They make a good team on the mic. Or a CD of Breez duos with all the different Stronghold members. I'm also currently working on a solo project with Shaneeka Harrell, and some beats for Akim Funk Buddha.
Breez: I like what Dave said and currently putting together another Troublemakers LP with Dutch.
Shout outs? Daveytree: Domination Recordings for putting the CD out, Meg, Shaneeka Harrell, Noah D, Swave, Pash Mackintosh, B.ski, CJ, Chizza, DJ Ales, DJ B.Cause, Dojah, Kokes, Cramski the A-Team, ESL, and Mendo.
Breez: Stronghold, Deezlee, Treez & Meg & Beav in Berlin, Colanicola23, Sevah, Von Harmful, Diggy Dojah, Dutch, DJ Static, DJ Mr. Mack, Tao, SF, NY, Colanicola23, King, and D.J. Fisher for the reach out.
